Minutes of the May 2007 Orange Committee Board Meeting - Corrected

The meeting of the Orange Committee of Southern California Swimming (USA
Swimming) was called to order at 8:00 PM May 22, 2007 at the Woolett Aquatic
Center, Irvine, CA.

In attendance were: Mary Goehring, FVAA, Vice-Chair; Kim Hoesterey, NOVA,
Program Chair; Bill Voigt, MVN, Senior Rep; Bill Rose, MVN; Judi Divan, MVN,
Secretary; Kenny Russell, AAA; Dennis Cujak, AAA; Patti Haney, SEAL; Devon
Ames, STOP; Joyce Phelps; Lynda Julson, Review; Mark Tierney, ORCA; Louis
Demetriades, NGSV, Age Group Rep; Jeri Marshburn, NOVA, Coach Rep; Dave Salo,
NOVA; Adam Crossen, NOVA; Abby Pearose, OCW; Rod Hansen, NOVA; Andi Kawamoto-
Klatt, NOVA.

1. Secretary's Report - (Judi Divan) - No report.
2. Treasurer's Report - (Monty Brown) - Not present.

3. Coaches Report - (Jeri Marshburn) - ASCA is taking nominations for age
group coach of the year; SCS is allowed to have each Committee make its own
nominations. Nominations are for 2006 LCM and 2006-7 SCY. Please send
nominations to Jeri immediately.

4. Senior Report (Bill Voigt) - The National Open Water
Championships were held last weekend in Ft. Meyers, FL. Fran Crippen, MVN,
finished 2nd in the 10K; Micha Burden, MVN, finished 2nd in both the 5K and 25K.
Micha will compete in the 25K at 2008 World Championships in Spain. Fran will
compete in the 10K at the 2007 Pan Am games in Brazil. Four MVN swimmers
qualified for Olympic Trials/World Championship Trials in October 2007.

5. Age Group Report (Louis Demetriades) - Zone Select Camp
was just held; there was good participation from local swimmers and the
information passed out was good educationally. The April Blue LC meet has
become huge; even with NOVA not participating this year, there were over 700
swimmers. The Orange Committee may need to target this meet for consideration
of size in next bid cycle.

6. Review (Lynda Julson) - There has not been a review meeting.

7. Officials (Richard Davis) - Not present.

8. Registration/Meet Operations (Marilyn Bolton) - Not present.

9. Program (Kim Hoesterey) - Next AdHoc meeting will be June 26 at 7:00 p.m.
to discuss the September NOVA back-to-school meet. We may also need to
reschedule the Pumpkin meet. It is scheduled October 6, 2007 but this may
conflict with the Fall Clinic. Depending on whether the Fall Clinic is one
day or two days, the Pumpkin meet can either be rescheduled on October 7 or
another weekend.

10. Athlete Rep (Tara Thomas) Not present.

11. SCAF (Joyce Phelps for Karen VanderVoet) - Joyce inquired as to club
coaches feelings about the timing & presentation of the CIF SS Master Meet.
Some swimmers elected not to swim the meet this year because it interfered
with the start of their LCM training. Dave Salo suggested CIF SS Division
1-2-3-4 be held as timed finals with the Master meet being the finals, all to
conclude by Saturday, wrapping the CIF-SS championships up in a single week.

Joyce also inquired of coaches present if there was a value in having high
school league prelims &/or finals observed for usa times--with the number
of high school leagues SCAF provides officials for this has continued to
be more difficult. Several felt it was valuable to continue to observe
prelims as well as finals because often prelim times are faster.

12. Board of Directors (Bonnie Joseph) - Not present.

OLD BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS:
Coaches using Hy-tek entry need to make sure they are paying attention to meet
qualifying times in SCY and LCM, and not converting between courses. Please
doublecheck your meet setup in TM.
