SCS and the DDEI Committee celebrate Hispanic Heritage month
and would like to recognize and feature the following individuals in our LSC.
Pacific Committee would like to recognize Iyanah Samayoa, who swims for Swim Torrance.
“My name is Iyanah Samayoa and I’m proud to be a Hispanic. Not only do I love the food and traditions I get to celebrate with my
family, but also celebrate our culture and express ourselves through our
heritage. Although the diversity of swimming has immensely changed over
the years, being a minority-ethnic swimmer today has challenged me.
Swimming not only taught me to persevere through tough decisions but also to
truly learn the love and hardships that come with being an athlete. Swimming
has changed me for the better and has helped me create great relationships with
my teammates and coaches. Although swimming might be challenging, it’s always
fun being with my friends and around the people I always have a good time
with!”
Metro Committee would like to recognize Oliver Pena and Lucy Moore.
Oliver Pena:
Mr. Pena started his swimming involvement as a swimming Dad. As a supportive Dad, he grew to love swimming. He has coached and been involved in the club administration. His involvement rose to the Committee level, where he served as Program Chairperson in both the Olympic & Metro Committees. He also served as the Metro Committee DDEI Rep for four years. He is currently an official working several meets a year and still giving back to the sport of swimming.
Lucy Moore:
Ms. Moore started as a swimmer in the Olympic Committee and became the Head Coach of Commerce Aquatics. Ms. Moore has completed the swimming cycle with several of her own
kids. She has served as Secretary for the Olympic Committee and sat on the SCS Age Group Committee. She is currently coaching and running the Lakewood Aquatic swim team.
