Assistant Age Group Swim Coach

Employee Reports to: Head Coach

Job Type: Year-Round, Part-Time 

Salary Information: Salary will be commensurate with experience

Description: This is an opportunity to join a newly formed and rapidly growing, USA Swimming Club Team and Learn to Swim program.  The Assistant Age Group Coach collaborates with the Head Coach to develop and implement the training program to develop well rounded, competitive athletes. 

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Head Coach to develop strategies for practice times and structure, competitions, and all team related functions.

  • Effectively communicates the needs of the Team to the Head Coach.

  • Attend all practices, meets, team functions, and club related activities as set forth by the Head Coach

  • Coach unless precluded by illness, or excused with prior permission

  • Take daily attendance

  • Attend regular staff meetings to discuss team development, schedule, current execution of training philosophy, recap of performance in competitions, etc.

  • Become familiar with team administration and communication tool, PoolQ.

  • Foster the physical, emotional & mental growth and building of relationships with athletes.

  • Professionalism as it relates to communication with athletes/parents, attire, language, attitude, and punctuality

  • Oversee the team pro shop which includes inventory management and distribution of apparel and equipment

  • Maintain a current understanding of USA Swimming & Southern California Swimming policies, rules, and regulations

  • Communicate with and recruit new members to the club and inform the Head Coach of all interests

  • Assist with scheduling of tryout or evaluation sessions for those interested in joining

  • Assist the Head Coach with entering athletes into competitions

  • Support and participate in team incentives and fundraising. 


Requirements

  • Exhibit strong knowledge of the sport of swimming, including: practice structures, stroke instruction, drills and racing technique, national and international competition qualifications, and evaluation of athlete skill levels

  • Previous coaching experience

  • Strong Leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work well with staff and club members

  • Stay current with all certifications identified by USA Swimming
