Approval of minutes: Ruth Garrison, Secretary: Present. Minutes were approved and passed.
Report of Olympic Section Officers:
Chairperson: George Young: Present. George Young received a call from Mary Jo about a Tri-meet March 29-30, 2003 to sign off on a Sanction for the Tri-Meet. The Tri-meet was SPPY/ROSE/COMM. There was a meeting with Michael and Oliver Program chairs. The results of the meeting, was to reject the sanction for the Tri-meet. There was a request made to the LSC to override the disapproval of the sanction. The LSC overrode our decision and issued a sanction. There were two letters written one from Bettie Williams and one by Tom Mirabella. (Copies of these letters will be available at May Olympic Section Meeting.) These letters will be tabled until the May meeting so all parties involved can be there. Call for show of support of George Young as Chairperson. There was a major show of support for the excellent job chairperson George Young has done so far for Olympic Section.
Vice Chairperson: Kipp Sandvig: Present. No Report.
Treasurer: Tom Mirabella: Present. Treasurer’s report was approved and passed.
Coaches Representative: Deanne Preyor: Present. November 15, 2003, is the date for All Star Meet. Motion for October Meets October 11-12 (OAS & BSC) and the November 1-2 meet (COLA & TSM) to be All Star Qualifier meets. Motion passed. We need to discuss the All Star Meet Home budget.
Age Group Representative: Jeff Conwell: Present. Spring JO's resulted in a good show by our section. PASA 4th, CANY 5th, IHAC 7th, ROSE 10th.
Athletic Representative: Mackenzie Hurlston: Present. Everything went well at JO’s and a special thanks to those who timed.
Program Chair, Senior: Oliver Pena: Present. Working on 2004-2005 Schedule. BSC has redrawn their bid for February 28-29 ABC Short Course Meet. This meet is now open for bids. It is a Last Ditch JOs Meet.
Program Chair, Junior: Michael Schicora: Present. Working on upcoming swim meets.
Meet Reports:
Olympic Section AA Max Short Course Championships hosted by Downey Dolphins Aquatics, March 20-23, 2003: 825 swimmers, 4176 splashes, 104 relays, 24 rejections for late postmarks, 4 injury reports. Backstroke flags fell twice, caused about 20 minutes in delays, no interference with swimmers.
Thursday start time: 4:37 p.m. to 7:09 p.m. 6 lanes. Friday: start time 4:33 p.m. to 7:25 p.m. 8 lanes; Saturday start: 9:00 a.m. to 4:23 p.m. 10 lanes; Sunday start: 9:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. 10 lanes.
Team Scoring: Large teams (greater than 40 swimmers) 1st place IHAC, 2nd place PASA, 3rd place CANY. Medium Teams (20-40 swimmers) 1st place DWNY, 2nd place PVAC, 3rd place TSM. Small teams (less than 20) 1st place ADST, 2nd place CERR, 3rd place AVA.
Cerritos Aquatic Club ABC Long Course Meet, April 12-13, 2003: About 650 swimmers, late postmarks rejected.

Safety: George Young: Present. The City of San Gabriel & The City of Monterey Park American Red Cross Course for Spring 2003 offers Water Safety Instructor class 44 hours. Cost $80.00 (includes books & Materials). Dates May 24, 25, 31, and June 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 29 and June 5 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Barnes Park Pool. Contact George Young at 626/280-3503.
Old Business: Redistricting: The following clubs should be added to the new section: SFSA, LKWD, HOLY, AMS. There is a problem of lack of pool availability. Probably no decision will be made at April LSC meeting. April Pool Day: This is a great attention getter for clubs. Maybe think of it for next year. For information go to April Pool Day.com.
JO’s Team Division for scoring: Teams are not broken up into divisions for scoring (small, medium, large). Straw vote showed that Olympic Section is in favor of dividing into three divisions for scoring at JO’s.
New Business:
Saturday May 3rd Dual – Canyons with Santa Barbara at Santa Barbara. Still going to the BC Meet. April 26th Dual Meet at Lakewood. Lakewood is still going to Section Meets.
