Twichell Takes 5 & 10K, Heron 5K in Florida

Friday and Sunday, Ashley Twichell (MVN) became the first swimmer since 2007 to sweep the 5 and 10K titles at the USA Swimming Open Water Championships in Florida, securing a spot in the Olympic qualifier meet in Portugal in June.  Haley Anderson (TROJ) placed second in the 10K and will also swim the Olympic qualifier.  Christine Jennings (MVN) made it a podium sweep for Southern California finishing third in the 10K.  Brooke Lorentzen (MVN) scored in 13th.

The Women's 5K turned into a SoCal showcase with Emily Brunemann (FAST), Jennings, Lorentzen and Liliana Casso (TSM) taking 2nd through 5th behind Twichell.

Janardan Burns (MVN) and David Heron (MVN) captured 2nd and 3rd in the Men's 10K behind Andrew Gemmell (UN-MA) while Jordan Wilimovsky (TSM) scored in 9th place.

Heron came back on Sunday to claim the 5K title with Wilimovsky in 2nd and Burns in 4th.  Cory Mayfield (UN) scored in 9th.  Nick Vargas (UN) placed 13th, Nicholas Norman (MVN) 14th and Brendan Casey (TSM) 15th.
