In memoriam: Swimmer Maxx Cheng and Official Kieth Pike

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

Southern California Swimming mourns the loss of two of our treasured members in the past few days:

13-year-old swimmer Maxx Cheng was athletic, intelligent, funny and mature, and was voted Class President at his elementary school.  In intermediate school, he played viola with the orchestra and was part of the Speech and Debate team.

Also passing was beloved and long-time Official, Kieth Pike.  Kieth served in the US Air Force, and was a past Board Member for SCAF (Southern California Aquatics Federation).  Kieth started officiating swim meets in 1962, mentoring new officials along the way.  He received SCS’s Ed Ruth Excellence in Officiating Award in 2017.

Kieth's memorial service will be August 24 at Riverside National Cemetery at 11am.  Services are open to the public, and masks and physical distancing are required.

Both members of our swimming family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
