Meet Marshals at Competitions - Meet Host Team Requirement

Wednesday, January 11, 2023

Under USA Swimming Operational Risk and Safe Sport MAAPP requirements, meet host teams must have trained Meet Marshals at competitions, assigned to specific positions in the warm-up area and the restrooms and locker rooms. The number of Marshals needed is dependent on the aquatic facility and the number of restrooms and locker rooms. There must be a minimum of two marshals - one female assigned to the women's facilities and one male assigned to the men's facilities.

Meet Marshals do not need to be USA Swimming registered members at this time. Although it is recommended.

The Meet Sanction will revoked, if the Meet Director has not provided the names of the trained Meet Marshals to the 48 hours prior to the start of the meet to the online google form available on January 9th. Link will be sent each Meet Director.

The Meet Director is responsible for supervising the Marshals at the competition, and also for verfiying the Meet Marshals have completed the training and exam. The Meet Director must advise the Meet Referee and Meet Admin of any incidences, and also complete a Report of Occurrence with USA Swimming.   It is not recommended for a coach to be the Meet Director. If a coach is named on the Sanction Application as the Meet Director, they can not be coaching or be a Marshal at the meet. The Meet Director is a full time position at the competition.
