Alex Nieto, was born Alejandro Nieto in Nicaragua.  Immigrated here with his parents as a child to California in the 80's and was raised in Orange, California.  He attended El Modena high school in Orange and was both on the cross country and swim teams in high school.  He later enrolled into Orange Coast and Santiago Community College's and transferred to Cal State, Fullerton where he played club water polo in college and was a large part of student organizations in college.

He started coaching in college at the age of 19 doing swim lessons for ORCA's city summer lessons program and was asked that fall by his long time coach, Mark Tierney to help coach 9/10 year olds. He fell in love with coaching right away and has always wanted to make a career out of being in the sports industry since that day. He loves to watch the growth of athletes and the success of the programs he works with.

Alex currently coaches swimmers from a ll sorts of organizations.  Other than working with the Irvine NOVA's, Alex is  head coach of the girl's and boy's swim team at Northwood High School and the co-head coach of the North Irvine Knights.
